Changing transmission fluid on high mileage vehicle? Changing transmission fluid on high mileage vehicle? I have recently purchased a 1999 Lincoln Continental car with 118500 miles on it. As it is a used car, I do not know whether the previous owners have done any transmission fluid change. I got a routine inspection done for the car from a reputed mechanic and they recommended changing the transmission fluid as it was brownish in colour. I will definitely not do a transmission flush......but would like experts opinion on whether I should ; 1) do the traditional method of transmission fluid drain, refill and change the filter OR 2) don't do anything at all since the car is not giving any problems. Are there any risk factors in getting a transmission fluid change for a high mileage vehicle where history of any transmission fluid change is not known. car insurance. Jaguar . How to Install a Fog LightThe fog light on a vehicle helps to illuminate the road ahead during bad weather. The fog light sits low to the ground so that it shines, presumably, below fog and thus helps the driver to see rather than reflecting off low-level fog. Occasionally, these bulbs blow out just like regular headlights. When this happens, you'll need to install a new fog light. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need New fog light Socket wrench Socket set Step by Step : 1 Disconnect the negative cable on the battery. This step is not absolutely necessary, but if you want to take an extra precaution against electrical shock, you should disconnect the negative battery. The electrical connector to the fog light does not expose (or should not be exposing) any wiring. To disconnect the battery, loosen the nut on the cable clamp running ot the negative terminal and slide the cable off the terminal. 2 Remove the electrical connector from the light ballast on the fog light assembly. 3 Turn the fog light counterclockwise and pull it straight out of the fog light housing. 4 Insert the new bulb into the fog light housing and align the tabs on the base of the bulb with the notches on the fog light housing. Turn the fog light clockwise to lock it into the housing. Make sure that you do not touch the glass bulb in this process as the oils from your fingers will cause the bulb to explode inside the housing when you turn the lights on. 5 Reconnect the electrical connector. 6 Reconnect the battery cable if you disconnected it. Tips & Warnings For specific information on your fog light assembly and for specific removal and installation instructions, consult the particular vehicle's manual (see Resources). Jaguar . How to Install Fog Light BulbsFog lights are small lights below the headlights on a vehicle. In addition to providing better visibility in foggy weather, fog lights also help improve your vision at night and in rain. Fog light bulbs are like any other auto bulb; they eventually burn out. Luckily, installing fog light bulbs is no harder than installing any other auto bulb. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Replacement bulb (see resources for bulb type) Screwdriver Socket wrench (optional) Step by Step : 1 Check in your owner's manual to determine the type of bulb your fog lights use. If you have difficulty finding the information, see the resources section to find bulb types by year, make and model. 2 Examine your fog lights. Most fog lights are surrounded by a plastic cover. The covers are usually attached by clips, but some are attached by screws or bolts. Pop off the cover or remove the screws or bolts. 3 Remove the screws from your fog light mounting bracket. The bracket surrounds the fog light and will be visible with the cover removed. Once you have the screws off, carefully pull the fog light from its mount. 4 Twist the module on the rear of the fog light counterclockwise to unlock it, and then carefully pull the module from the fog light assembly. 5 Press the tab on the fog light module to release the old bulb. Install the new bulb in its place. Insert the module back into the fog light assembly and twist it clockwise to lock it. 6 Mount the fog light assembly back on the bracket and replace the screws. Replace the fog light plastic cover. If held on by clips, simply pop it back on. If held on by screws, place the cover in its spot and replace the screws. 7 Repeat the procedure if you need to install more than one fog light bulb. You should also ask what the hourly labor rate is and whether the shop uses OEM parts for your particular vehicle. A telephone interview can give you a good idea of whether a shop's prices are competitive and provide you with a feeling for the shop's "vibes." If the people you talk to are surly and uncommunicative over the phone, chances are that you're going to run into trouble if you have to deal with them in an emergency.
